The TI-36X Pro is a four-line scientific calculator built for engineering and computer science coursework where graphing calculators aren't allowed, and it's one of the models NCEES actually permits on the FE and PE exams. It runs on solar power with a battery backup, so it doesn't die mid-exam the way a battery-only unit can.
The MultiView display shows several calculations on screen at once, and MathPrint renders fractions, roots, and exponents the way they actually look in a textbook instead of forcing everything into a single line of text. Underneath that, it's got the solvers, matrix and vector operations, and calculus functions you'd expect from a calculator this far up the TI lineup, just without the graphing screen NCEES won't let you bring in.
Power on happens automatically under normal light since it's solar-charged, with the battery kicking in as backup. The MODE menu is where you switch between degrees and radians, fixed and floating decimal points, and Classic versus MathPrint display, so it's worth setting that up once before you start working problems rather than mid-session.
For exam prep, run it in MathPrint mode so your practice sessions match how the numbers will actually appear on screen. The toggle key flips answers between exact form (fractions, pi, radicals) and decimal approximation, which matters when a problem asks for one or the other and you don't want to redo the calculation by hand.
No cables, no separate battery to install. It comes ready to use out of the box.
"I didn't want to gamble on exam day with an untested calculator. Knowing this one is on the NCEES list took that worry off the table before I even sat down."
Bring the wrong calculator to a Pearson VUE testing center and you can't sit for the exam. Full stop, no exceptions.
This is the calculator built to remove that risk, one of a small handful of models NCEES actually allows for both the FE and PE exams, across every engineering discipline.
The TI-36X Pro's four-line, 16-digit MultiView display lets you see multiple calculations on screen at once, with MathPrint rendering fractions, roots, and exponents the way they appear in your review manual, not squeezed onto a single line.
Three built-in solvers cover numeric equations, polynomials, and systems of linear equations, and the calculator also handles derivatives, integrals, vectors, and matrices, the same functions you'll actually need across FE and PE problem sets.
Solar and battery powered so it won't die mid-exam, with the same MathPrint interface used throughout high school and college math courses, so there's no new syntax to learn the week before test day.
Pairs naturally with FE practice problem books if you're building out a full exam kit. We carry a few of those too, if you'd like to bundle.
